If you’ve just received a wedding invitation in the mail and need help figuring out everything you need to do before your friend or relative’s big day, don’t worry! We know it can be difficult to keep track of the wedding timeline and tagging of any wedding guests, so we’re here to help with our handy and handy wedding guest list. To make sure you don’t forget to buy a gift, reserve your hotel room, or anything else that could be a great oops, we’ve put together a quick guide to killing your duties as a guest.

Once you have received the wedding date (usually one year to six months before the wedding)

Visit the couple’s website This is usually on the invitation and can help answer any wedding-related questions you may have.

Book your travel and accommodation Not only do hotels and flights fill up quickly, they can also get quite expensive as you buy them. Stay on top of your travels and stay on top of your plans ASAP.

Once you have received the invitation (usually six to eight weeks before the wedding):

Ask your companion: If you were given the option of bringing an escort, then make sure to invite your date immediately. This way you can include whether or not they will attend on the RSVP card.

Request time off If you know you will be traveling during work hours, ask for time off from your company or start tackling those tasks so you don’t get left behind while you’re away.

RSVP As soon as you have finalized your travel plans you must send in your RSVP card. You never want to be “that guest” who forgets to send in their RSVP card and the couple getting married has to find you.

4 weeks before the wedding

Buy a wedding gift Check the couple’s registry and choose a gift from there. This way it will be sent to your home and you will not have to worry about bringing a gift to the royal wedding.

Choose an outfit Planning your outfit in advance will save you from having to frantically search for something to wear at the last minute.

2 weeks before

Make sure your companion knows what to wear Be sure to tell your appointment what to wear. From the black tie, semi-formal to casual, your companion also needs to know what the dress’s attire is.

1 week before

Book any beauty appointment If you want to get your nails done before the wedding weekend or even a fresh haircut and color, you should book all of these appointments the week before.

Start packing Make sure you pack ahead so you don’t forget any minor or major belongings like your toothbrush, your rehearsal dinner dress, or an extra pair of shoes.

Day before the wedding

Attend the rehearsal dinner Many out-of-town guests are invited to the rehearsal dinner, so make sure you’re not late for any pre-wedding activities you’ve been invited to.

Sleep well You will most likely wake up the next night to celebrate the newlyweds, so make sure you don’t leave too late before the big day.

Wedding day

Get ready Don’t wait until the last minute to start dressing. It is always a good idea to start preparing at least two hours before the ceremony.

Pack a clutch Y Or you can easily carry your phone, license, and other overnight items with you in a small clutch or purse.

Arrive on time It is best to arrive at the ceremony at least 30 minutes before it starts. This way you can easily sit down and not have to run to get to the ceremony site.

Have fun! Celebrate the happy couple spending the day mixing and mingling or dancing on the dance floor.

Day after wedding

Attend the farewell brunch Don’t sound the alarm! Instead, wake up on time and help fire the newlyweds. You can also thank them for planning such a special day!

Journey home If you are going to fly, be sure to check in with your airline in advance. Or, if you are driving, it is always a good idea to fill it up before leaving town.
