Legend has it that it was in Ancient Greece that the tradition of the bride carrying a bouquet of flowers began. In fact, the stories refer to the habit of women going up to the altar carrying herb and garlic branches to scare away the evil eye and the bad energies against the union. Records from Ancient Egypt, however, show flowers and herbs embellishing various ceremonies, also serving as decoration for the wedding feast among other festivities. In the Middle Ages, the brides were gifted with herbs and other plants on the way to the priest and groom, reaching the end with the bouquet formed against the envy of others. The tradition would have been perfected over time until giving way to the flowers for an unromantic reason: to help disguise the couple’s stench!
But if the beginning of this tradition is controversial and surrounded by uncertainty, the same is not true of its application today. The bouquet has become a mandatory item in the bonds. The release of the arrangement is even one of the most iconic and expected moments of the wedding party. Of such importance, the flowers that form it are carefully chosen. Among the trends is that of monochrome bouquets, i.e. of one colour.

Not everything is flowers
As we have seen, flowers were not used at the origin of the bouquets. If the proposal is to guarantee exuberance to the bride, investing in sheets of different shades, shapes and textures may be the answer. The herbs and seedlings can be gathered to complement the look and add smells to the bride’s passage to the altar.
It is worth noting that the colours of the bouquet do not necessarily have to match the flowers of the wedding decoration. The bride’s arrangement is an outstanding element of the environment and therefore need not follow the same colors, only the same visual identity. And remember that, to harmonize with very flashy bouquets, the other details of the costume need not be exaggerated, falling well into smooth wedding dresses and / or with volume, brightness and discreet embroidery.
